THE OTHER – FINALE, MUNICIPALITY OF POLLINA 2025
Andrea Camilleri. To me, he is first and foremost an example of freedom of thought and love for words — words that are never just a sound, but a tool for liberation, resistance, and community building. I chose to represent him through his face, showing the signs of time, with that lively gaze and that hand that seems to invite us to never stop thinking. Above, pointed to by his finger, is one of his quotes: “You must never be afraid of the other, because to the other, you are the other.” A quote reminding us that the other is not an enemy, but a brother, a sister with whom we share the planet, the nations, the cities we live in. In a historical moment marked by conflict and division, these words are more necessary than ever. This mural is an act of gratitude towards Camilleri, but also an invitation to everyone not to be afraid, to stay open, to resist shutting down.
I return to Pollina with great joy. I feel good here, I feel at home, in my Sicily.
